WHAT IS NEW:
You already may be familiar with Laura Theodore from her award-winning public television cooking show, Jazzy Vegetarian and as the host of the popular podcast radio show, Jazzy Vegetarian Radio. Jazzy Vegetarian’s Deliciously Vegan brings over 175 of Theodore’s most popular recipes together in one beautiful, colorful book.
WHAT IS AUTHENTIC:
Laura Theodore is first and foremost an accomplished musician and singer, recording about every style of music there is, from rock, to blues, and, yes—jazz. Recognizing the connection many people make between food and music, she started hosting dinner parties for fellow musicians, friends, and family. And making yet another connection—between food and her love of animals—she started making it her mission to educate others about the cruelty of factory farming and began sharing her plant-based compassionate cooking with others.
WHAT IS KIND:
Jazzy is a very well-rounded book, with a wide variety of recipes; there are even two separate chapters just of desserts! The recipes are well-laid out and easy to follow, with a beautiful colorful photograph accompanying each.
WHAT IS ENLIGHTENED:
Theodore includes several handy “top ten” lists in the opening chapter, such as “Laura’s Top Ten Egg Substitutions for Baking,” “Top Ten Cheese and Cream Sauce Substitutions,” and even “Top Ten Two-Ingredient Recipes.”
IS THIS BOOK FOR YOU?
If you’re a fan of Laura Theodore’s TV show and/or radio podcast, this book is definitely for you. I rated this book 4 stars (instead of 5) because many of the recipes use added oil, and some call for ready-made processed foods. Although this may be convenient for those in a hurry or omnivores transitioning to plant-based eating, added oils and processed foods aren’t recommended on a truly whole-food plant-based diet.
STAR RATING? (1 to 5): 4
