WHAT IS NEW:

If you’re reading Naked Food Magazine, you’re more than likely familiar with The China Study, by T. Colin Campbell and Thomas M. Campbell II. That ground-breaking book from a decade ago was one of the first to provide an in-depth examination of the connection between a diet of animal-based foods and chronic illnesses such as heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. You may also be familiar with Chef Del Sroufe, the vegan chef made famous from Forks Over Knives. In his new cookbook, Chef Sroufe shares his favorite whole food plant-based family-friendly recipes like grilled cheese sandwiches, sloppy joes, and pizza. In addition, there are tips on getting kids involved in the cooking process, for they may be more eager to try vegan food when they’ve had a hand in creating it. Suggestions and safety tips for five different age levels are included.

WHAT IS AUTHENTIC:

The recipes follow a true whole food, plant-based diet to a T: there are no added oils or sugars and aside from some whole wheat flour or pasta, the ingredients are all whole fruits, vegetables, herbs, nuts, and seeds.

At the end of each chapter is a piece titled, “At Home with the Plant-Based Family” where Chef Sroufe shares real-life stories from a variety of plant-based families and how they successfully transitioned to a vegan diet.

WHAT IS KIND:

The China Study Family Cookbook not only offers nutritious, delicious recipes, but also tips for transitioning your family to a plant-based diet, which can be particularly challenging when there are children involved. Sroufe helps you accomplish this by offering healthful plant-based versions of “familiar” kid-friendly foods like hot dogs, mac and cheese, quesadillas.

WHAT IS ENLIGHTENED:

The recipes in The China Study Family Cookbook are delicious and don’t require “exotic” ingredients or fancy tools. Each recipe includes a beautiful, full-color photograph as well as tips and special notes to ensure success.
